A prequel to the upcoming Lupin the IIIrd The Movie: Fujimi no Ketsuzoku, titled Lupin the IIIrd: Zenigata to Futari no Lupin, will premiere via streaming on June 20 JST. A broadcast premiere on WOWOW will follow on June 22 JST.
The Inspector Zenigata-starring prequel is described as a “hard action” title where a terrorist bombing brings Zenigata to a confrontation with a “fake Lupin.”
Lupin the IIIrd: Zenigata to Futari no Lupin will begin its broadcast at 9 PM JST, after a marathon run that includes Lupin the IIIrd: Jigen’s Gravestone, Lupin the IIIrd: Goemon’s Blood Spray, and Lupin the IIIrd: Fujiko’s Lie. A visual and a number of stills have been released.
Lupin the IIIrd The Movie: Fujimi no Ketsuzoku is set to premiere theatrically on June 27 JST. It is advertised as being the first 2D Lupin III anime film in 30 years, and it is also the latest in the Lupin the IIIrd line of entries that are directed by Takeshi Koike (Redline).

The Lupin III franchise, which features the exploits of the master thief Lupin III, began in 1967 with a manga created by the late Monkey Punch. The first anime series adaptation began airing in 1971.
There have been multiple other manga series and anime entries, with the latter including films, OVAs, crossovers, and a 3DCG movie. One of the earliest Lupin III anime films was the Hayao Miyazaki-directed The Castle of Cagliostro.
