In collaboration with animation studio Science SARU (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, DEVILMAN crybaby), TV Asahi has unveiled plans to adapt the Tomato Soup’s award-winning historical manga A Witch’s Life in Mongol into a TV anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia. The special teaser trailer sets the stage for a haunting yet gripping narrative set in the tumultuous Mongol Empire of the 13th century.
In celebration of the anime’s announcement, Tomato shared a special illustration and the following comment:
“Over 10 years ago, long before I began drawing A Witch’s Life in Mongol, I was fascinated by the history of the Mongolian Empire. I often thought, ‘I wish there were an anime like this.’ That thought led me to daydream: If such an anime existed, what kind of characters would appear? What sort of story would unfold?”
The A Witch’s Life in Mongol manga is currently serialized in Souffle by Akita Publishing. Yen Press will be publishing it in English with the first volume scheduled for May 27, 2025. Yen Press’ description of the manga reads:

A Witch’s Life in Mongol started serialization in 2021 and will release its fifth tankoubon volume on April 16, 2025 JST. It was the number one title in the female reader category of the This Manga is Amazing! category and the top historical fiction manga in Apple Books Store’s 2022 Best Manga list. At the time of writing, A Witch’s Life in Mongol‘s fifth volume is Amazon Japan’s top-selling shojo manga title.
