The second volume of Samuel Sattin and Gurihiru’s new Unico graphic novel titled Unico: Hunted is set to be released on July 1, 2025. The new series reimagines Osamu Tezuka’s original 1976 manga of the same name
Unico: Hunted serves as a follow-up to last year’s Unico: Awakening and adapts the original manga’s chapter “Black Rain and White Feathers.” It was first announced at last year’s San Diego Comic Con.

The new Unico graphic novel series is published by Scholastic’s Graphix comic book imprint. It is written by Sattin and illustrated by artist duo Gurihiru, who have worked on comic series such as Gwenpool and Spider-Man & Venom: Double Trouble. The series is developed in collaboration with Tezuka Productions and features full-color artwork and left to right pages in the Western comics style that matched the original manga.
The series is the first ever manga publication from Scholastic, with multiple volumes planned to be released in 12 languages.
Graphix describes the synopsis of the second volumes as:
Lost in space and time, Unico awakens in an abandoned factory town. Saved by the resourceful mouse, Garapachi, Unico befriends Chiko, a human girl. But he soon learns that a sinister force is at work in the town’s factory, bent on killing all living things. Meanwhile, Venus unleashes a fierce hunter who will stop at nothing to find Unico. Can Unico save Chiko? Can the West Wind save Unico? Conceived anew by Eisner-nominated author Samuel Sattin and Eisner-winning artist team Gurihiru, and developed in collaboration with Tezuka Productions, UNICO: Hunted is the second volume in a groundbreaking reboot of a beloved manga by Astro Boy creator Osamu Tezuka, the “God of Manga.” With striking full-color artwork and reading left to right in the Western comics style to match the original manga, UNICO is a brilliant series featuring storytelling at its best. Join Unico on an unforgettable journey!
